Overview:
 
As a District Merchant, you will support My Macy's and Stores Own Sales by driving sales and profit within the District focusing on Cosmetics and Fragrances for approximately 10 stores.  You will partner with the Central, Regional support team and Store Executive team focusing on Merchandise Execution, MAGIC Selling and improving Scorecard performance through consistent delivery of the Key Accountabilities.  Position reports to District VP.   
 
Key Accountabilities:
 
People and Selling
  • Role model MAGIC Selling; teach Sales Managers to use product training as an element of Selling and a way to improve Scorecard performance
  • Assist with facilitating approved Seminars; ensure that all product training is aimed at educating Store teams on improving selling techniques
  • Leverage vendors to train Sales Managers and Sales Associates on product features, benefits and selling techniques
  • Ensure that Store Management has an effective coaching process in place; observe and review coaching tools during store visits
  • Recognize Store, Store Management and Sales Associate performance during Store Visits; utilize the Scorecard and Associate Trend Report
  • Train Sales Managers to train their Associates on using Search & Send to improve selling and results
 
Merchandise Execution
  • Direct consistent execution based on published national guidelines and standards; collaborate with Regional and Central partners as needed
  • Coach and direct Store teams on merchandise execution processes; coach Sales Managers on leading recovery and maintenance
  • Lead seasonal & event floor planning process by collaborating with Store Management
  • Observe and assess merchandise execution processes and identify areas of opportunities; recommend solutions to Store Management

Communication

  • Participate in the Monday communication Cascade calls; attend national webinars and calls with Central, Region and Vendor partners
  • Review all posted information and communications pertaining to District Merchants
  • Communicate and present  priorities, strategies and direction to the District; publish DM Newsletter 
  • Communicate informally with Stores to drive action as needed; respond to requests from Central, Regional, District and Vendor partners
  • Develop collaborative relationships with vendor representatives; communicate in-store priorities and needs to vendors including Private Brands

Managing Others

  • Recruit, select, train and develop service minded Cosmetics Account Coordinators
  • Lead and coach a team of Cosmetics Account Coordinators; monitor and address performance issues on a timely basis
  • Administer and complete Performance Appraisal and LPR process for Cosmetics Coordinators; manage timekeeping of Cosmetics Coordinators
 
Other
  • Determine priorities and actions; partner with Regional Merchandise Director Cosmetics to review opportunities and determine action plans
  • Analyze reporting to determine merchandise execution, product training and coaching actions; review reports specific to Cosmetics/Fragrances 
  • Prepare for Deep Dive Store Visits;  present information specific to Cosmetics/Fragrances during Deep Dive; review store performance
  • Lead pre-season event planning and strategy meetings with Stores and Vendors; ensure that Sales Managers populate Event Tracker with events
  • Oversee event planning and execution for events and GWPs in District partnering with Cosmetics Coordinators and Vendors
  • Coach stores to plan execution and selling to exceed Pre-Sell goals; utilize available reporting to evaluate successes and opportunities
  • Visit competition; observe and evaluate competitive opportunities; communicate findings to DVP and Regional Merchandise Director Cosmetics
  • Lead training for new Cosmetics Coordinators and Cosmetics Sales Managers focusing on Cosmetics specific accountabilities
  • Support onboarding of new DMs and Store Executives related to understanding merchandise, selling, product training and strategies
  • Participate in Pre-Season Planning Meetings; partner with Stores to surface opportunities during Pre-Season Planning Meetings
  • Identify and request localized product using the Communication Tool
 
Skills Summary: 
  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience of retail management or merchandising preferred; 4 year college degree preferred
  • Results oriented, passionate and shows a strong sense of urgency
  • Outstanding creative merchandising skills
  • Ability to build partnerships with all levels of management
  • Ability to coach, train, motivate and mentor
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrates analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel frequently to stores throughout the District
