Senior Operating Engineer

Position Summary:

We are seeking a Sr. Operating Engineers (Jack of All) to perform routine preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on equipment and systems directly related to building infrastructure at our Des Plaines, IL facility.

Sr. OPERATING ENGINEER – Based in Des Plaines IL.

HOURS

  • 1st Shift – Days 0700hrs to 1530hrs Sunday thru Thursday (Friday & Saturday are days off)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Respond to reports of defect with regards to buildings and facility services equipment, i.e. - HVAC, Electrical, doors, plumbing, structural, carpentry, etc.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and facilitates periodic testing on building and service related equipment.
  • Troubleshoot problems with building and facilities equipment by utilizing all means necessary.
  • Aid in facilitating safety and security by ensuring workplace, municipal, and legal standards are maintained with regards to building and grounds.
  • Dismantle equipment to gain access to problem areas.
  • Inspect for defects.
  • Remove and replace defective parts.
  • Return equipment to normal service.
  • Able to program automated equipment such as building management systems to some degree determined by job assignment i.e. remotely manipulate electrical, lighting, HVAC, fire systems, etc.
  • Provide regular updates to Maintenance Management / Supervision regarding status of projects and assignments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; with at least
  • 10 years of related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10(+) years of building operations and maintenance experience as a do all Jack of All operation.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
  • Must have and maintain valid driver’s license.
  • Trade certification preferred.
  • Stationary equipment engineer operator license (where applicable).
  • Boiler operator license (where applicable).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Meet industry standards of operation in accordance with NEC, NFPA, OSHA, ANSI, BOCA, MSI, etc.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products, Computerized Maintenance Management System (C.M.M.S) Project, and other internet based software.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Ability to be standing, walking, 18 buildings (1mil sq/ft) throughout shift
  • Ability to carry and transport tools and equipment (50lbs)
  • Ability to use ladders and operate mobile man-lifts daily
  • Ability to climb stairs (should elevators be out of service)  
  • Ability to operate machines and utility equipment (HVAC, air compressors, company vehicle, conduct chemistry, etc)
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools
  • Ability to don required protective equipment
  • Ability to support the ERT (emergency response team) with operating building systems in a crisis
  • Ability to work in cramped confining spaces under less than desirable conditions
  • Ability to work outdoors regardless of weather conditions
