Training Specialist - Field Sales
 
The purpose of the Training Specialist – Home Center Field Sales position is to execute in-market/in-store training and one-on-one coaching, driving sales force optimization and Home Center customer engagement.  The primary responsibility is to conduct field based training designed to have an immediate impact on Home Center channel P&L performance and positively drive sales force effectiveness.  This position reports directly to the Training Manager – Home Centers.
 
Knowledge of the sales cycle from prospecting to managing customer relationship and professional presentation skills are requirements. Must be self-directed with proven schedule/time management skills and able to develop a strong working relationships with internal and external customers. Must have demonstrated success in current sales role (if applicable).  Travel up to 80% is required to be effective.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Drive relationship with Home Center associates through delivery of targeted, strategic in-store training and knowledge development.
  • Partner with regional sales team and Home Center regional leadership to identify training needs at a local level, prioritize and execute in-store/in-field training accordingly.
  • Collaborate with PPG Home Center training team on training needs analysis and field executed content development.
  • Partner with Human Resources/Training Manager– Home Centers regarding specific employee development and training needs.
  • Develop individual coaching plans for PPG Home Center Territory Managers/PSRs and execute as needed.
  • Provide specific hands-on sales coaching to field sales teams.
  • Maintain financial objectives and controls spend according to approved budget.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Training Manager – Home Centers.
Skills needed to be successful in this position include: Ability to work in a highly matrix environment, Sales Business Acumen, Presentation Skills, Effective Time Management, Training Management, Meeting Management, Coaching, Meeting Sales Goals, Motivation for Sales, Selling to Customer Needs, Customer Service, Emphasizing Excellence Requires:
 
  • Bachelor Degree preferred, or equivalent 1-3 years of experience working in home center retailers
  • Ability to travel 75%, including overnight travel
  • Experience in facilitation/presenting
  • Experience in training
  • Customer service
  • Successful sales experience and general understanding of sales is preferred
