Senior Director - HSSE (Virtual - Open to All US Locations)

Position Summary:

SUMMARY
The Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) Sr Director is the primary point of contact for HSSE requirements and activities for IFM AMER, Corporate Solutions, oversees the HSSE needs for MPM, and provides experienced personnel to meet the environmental due diligence needs for LIM.  Communicates Americas region’s HSSE needs and recommendations to the JLL Global Safety Governance Committee, which is composed of multiple business line leaders from each of JLL’s global regions.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
LEADERSHIP | SME

  • Lead JLL’s safety effort to minimize injuries and save lives
  • Lead the successful delivery of HSSE regulatory responsibilities and best practices across the region to ensure compliance with current and new regulations and legislations
  • Provide strategic leadership and subject matter expertise on HSSE for IFM, Corporate Solutions and to the MPM Business Line.
  • Develop and maintain HSSE internal standards and guidelines ensuring that HSSE obligations are met
  • Key point of escalation of HSSE accident and incident  reporting and ensure measures are implemented to minimize future risk
  • Develop, lead and maintain a “Goal Zero” Culture of Safety through providing effective HSSE technical leadership, safety communications and the achievement of regulatory compliance
  • Manage and develop the HSSE Team of professionals to effectively implement HSSE programs and ensure compliance with all applicable HSSE-related laws, rules and regulations and JLL internal programs and standards, including due diligence for LIM
  • Increase the growth and assist in marketing of the firm from the HSSE perspective by representing JLL in proposals and in key meetings with potential and existing clients, providing HSSE strategic direction
  • Oversee the HSSE Support of New Business activities ensuring that proper HSSE programs and activities are implemented to achieve client and overall HSSE compliance management needs.
  • Oversee the successful implementation and maintenance of ISO HSSE Management Systems Standards for the NAM Central HSSE program.
  • Lead and oversee the company’s engagement and response to regulatory agency (OSHA, EPA) as required to settle non-compliance actions to the best outcome for the Business Line and company as a whole
  • Chair the North AM HSSE Leadership Council, consisting of HSSE Directors and Managers in lead roles on a number of JLL’s key client accounts, ensuring key strategic client HSSE needs are planned for and will be met in the future and identifying the most effective method of implementing new HSSE programs across the operations
  • Serve on the JLL Compliance Advisory Council (CAC) representing HSSE matters
  • Keep current with evolving HSSE management trends across industry by participating in industry HSSE groups and roundtables
 
REPORTING
  • Effectively manage the AIMS incident reporting system to provide up-to-date and reliable information in support of the JLL global safety effort.
  • Manage and provide HSSE oversight to the trending factors and indicators to management on a periodic basis
  • Deliver quarterly reports including HSSE performance report for IFM operations, including MES, other business line reports such as MPM, and is IFM KPI point of contact for HSSE KPI development and data
  • Oversee the management of the OSHA 301/300 recordkeeping requirements for the region
 
MAINTAIN COMPLIANCE
  • Support and oversee the HSSE training program to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, and other HSSE policy requirements, as well as Human Factors/Behavior-Based Safety Awareness
  • Oversee staff’s assistance to Operations in the assurance of compliance with HSSE and Environmental Sections of the Engineering Services Compliance Program (ESCP), as well as the staff’s maintenance of ESCP standards to ensure they are current
  • Develop and oversight of the HSSE Compliance Assurance program for JLL operations and HSSE programs
 
INCIDENT INVESTIGATION AND INSPECTIONS
  • Lead or participate in investigations, root cause analyses of accidents/incidents with serious injuries (including fatality)
  • Ensure that HSSE accidents, injuries, near misses/good catches, and other events are captured and the data is managed and reported in AIMS tool
 
FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE
  • Develop and manage HSSE budget, including personnel, compliance obligations, training, and professional services support, providing regional and global visibility and management
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant HSSE field
  • Advanced Degree, preferred
  • Minimum 12 years of prior experience in comparable HSSE program with HSSE program leadership experience as a part of this time
  • 15+ year’s prior experience, preferred
  • Experience and ability to oversee or carry out HSSE audits
  • Experience gathering objective evidence to ensure compliance with HSSE and related requirements
  • Work experience in both division/corporate-level responsibilities, as well as experience in day-to-day site level operations.
  • Experience in meeting with client HSSE representatives
  • Experience with leading or participating in investigations, root cause analyses of accidents/incidents with serious injuries (including fatality)
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Microsoft office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of relevant current legislation.
  • Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental tools and techniques, ideally within a Facilities Management environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to deliver specialist advice at all levels of the organization and to deliver effective training and presentations to large audiences and leadership as needed.
  • Understanding of behavior-based/human factors safety awareness training.
  • Understanding of basic workplace violence/employee security processes.
  • Acting as HSSE SME with a demonstrated ability in working effectively with client and account management leadership
  • Basic working knowledge of ISO 14001, 45001 and OHSAS 18001 HS&E management system standards implementation.
  • Strong, personal commitment to safety
  • Strong organizational skills, information management proficiency and a collaborative management style are needed.
  • Ability to keep abreast of trends and related best practice.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills in order to establish credibility with colleagues and senior management.
  • Ability to employ intelligent flexibility and decision making in difficult and complex situations.
 
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
  • Applicable HSSE professional certification(s), a plus
  • Certification in a behavior-based/human factors safety training program, a plus
