Objective of Role:
LaSalle Investment Management is seeking an Intern to join the firm’s Head of Sustainability in Chicago for the summer of 2017. The intern will take ownership of a special project to ensure that LaSalle US assets are benchmarking environmental performance. This project involves researching local and state energy benchmarking ordinances in order to determine all LaSalle assets that are subject to ordinance compliance. The intern will then be responsible for working with the Asset/Property Management team at each asset to either identify an existing or build a new ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager account. This includes collecting building use details including space types and occupancy and environmental metrics including at least 12 months of energy, water, and waste consumption. Additionally, this project includes building a database of asset characteristics as pertinent to environmental benchmarking, including tenancy types, lease clauses, utility information, and operating expenses.
The position provides an opportunity to learn about the operations of a leading real estate investment manager, make industry connections, and undertake a meaningful data project to inform strategy recommendations. Additionally, the candidate will gain insight into property and portfolio-level analysis of commercial real estate investments.
The ideal candidate is pursuing an undergraduate degree, preferably with a focus on business, real estate, or sustainability, who has a demonstrated interest in real estate, economics, or urban planning and enjoys working with large datasets. Basic knowledge of economics, finance, and statistics is required as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint). The intern can expect to work both independently and in cooperation with Asset Management team members.
