Overview: Manage, directly and/or through direct reports, facility-specific outbound transportation and yard activity in conjunction with local management team, Transportation, and selected carrier partners to achieve cost and service objectives. Outbound transportation includes shuttle activity for stores, Furniture and Bedding linehauls for related hubs, and 1:1 linehauls destined for other D.C.’s.
Essential Functions:
Store Shuttle
- Manage annual and seasonal shuttle projections for budgeting process.
- Represent facility in bidding, peak season planning, carrier management and PMT efforts.
- Manage and revise weekly dispatch schedules based on current carton projections and expected throughput by day.
- Forecast financial impact of the delivery schedule. Identify and utilize levers to manage cost performance as needed within accepted service parameters.
- Partner with Regional and District Store teams on delivery timing, methods and issues. Combine Stores input with delivery data (i.e carton transit, schedule accuracy, on-time performance, etc.) and periodically review with local management and carriers to identify and implement process improvements.
- Monitor loading activity throughout the day and adjust delivery plan. Communicate changes to stores and carriers to ensure execution.
- Coordinate and communicate dispatch schedule with 3rd party carriers and receiving locations.
- Monitor carrier performance to agreed upon service standards (including on-time pickup/delivery, courteous and professional behavior, adherence to safety and security policies, etc.). Engage carrier leadership and Transportation on a periodic and as-needed basis to resolve exceptions.
- Periodically assess inbound and shuttle lane congruency for vendor backhaul and related shuttle efficiency opportunities. Coordinate efforts to implement continuous movement with all impacted parties.
1:1 Linehaul
- Act as on-site liaison between Transportation 1:1 team and facility leadership related to general 1:1 operating condition, carrier planning and performance, trailer pool requirements, and facility-specific transportation needs.
- Represent facility in carrier-related bidding and peak season planning activities.
- Provide daily and forward looking (i.e. weekend) projections of linehaul activity to Transportation and coordinate supporting trailer pool requirements
- Provide lane-specific carrier assignments (equipment loading plan) to Shipping team to ensure timely loading of preferred carriers. Monitor carrier/equipment selection to ensure compliance and resolve problems with Shipping team.
- Review inbound and outbound carrier assignments to identify opportunities to leverage captive equipment.
- Monitor data transfer between JDA and FedFlo to ensure timely communication of loaded outbound trailers.
- Monitor dwell time of loaded outbound carriers to ensure timely pickup performance. Coordinate with Transportation to resolve exceptions.
Fleet & Yard
- Develop annual and seasonal yard operations and fleet maintenance/repair projections for budgeting process.
- Represent facility in bidding, peak season planning, carrier/service provider management and PMT efforts.
- Forecast financial impact of yard operations and trailer fleet maintenance/repair. Identify and utilize levers to manage cost performance as needed within accepted service parameters.
- Coordinate with maintenance/repair service providers to ensure delivery fleet (specifically Macy’s equipment) is maintained properly to minimize trailer down time within budgetary constraints.
- Periodically review fleet composition and make recommendations for new and/or different equipment requirements that positively impact cost and service.
- Coordinate yard jockey schedules and monitor performance to ensure effective yard operations in support of building needs.
- Develop forward-looking yard space projections to ensure sufficient capacity within budgetary constraints throughout the year, including temporary storage situations that may arise.
- Monitor daily yard capacity to ensure space availability for all transportation activities. Coordinate with Transportation for timely removal of unneeded equipment.
- Ensure accuracy of FedFlo equipment inventory and status through routine yard checks and auditing.
General
- Manage, coach, develop and provide leadership to executives and associates as a member of the facility leadership team.
- Represent transportation needs with MST and ML systems group to maintain, support and enhance programs to facilitate a smooth flow of retail merchandise to the stores, hubs, and DC’s.
- Identify and drive best practice expense and service initiatives.
- Ensure company safe work methods are adhered to.

Qualifications:
- Education/Experience: 5 years of experience working in a distribution or cross-dock operation environment in
Leadership/management role involving effective associate supervision & cross-functional teamwork. 8 years related experience including one or more periods of “on-the-floor_ experience in a shipping, receiving, LTL and/or cross-dock operation.
Experience at a carrier in the routing of freight, dispatch, and/or driver management environment.
Demonstrated ability to identify, prioritize and solve problems with excellent attention to details
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical skills
- Mathematical Skills: Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Reasoning Ability: Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Physical Demands: This position involves regular walking, standing, hearing, and
talking. May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Involves close vision, color
vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Other skills: Knowledge of Macy’s Systems
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suits (Excel, Powerpoint & Word)
Experience with warehouse management and shipping systems
- Work Hours: Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and store/company needs.
